Overview

Day Trip:Chiayi → Fenqihu Old Street → Alishan Forest Recreation Area (Sacred Tree & Train) → Tataka Lookout/Couple Tree → Xiding Cloud Viewpoint/Yenyenping Trail → Return to Chiayi

Fenqihu Old Street

A nostalgic railway town along the Alishan Forest Railway, known for its Japanese-style wooden buildings and famous railway bento boxes. The area includes a train culture museum, century-old lanes, and refreshing Aiyu jelly desserts — a favorite for history and train enthusiasts.

Alishan Forest Recreation Area

Taiwan’s most iconic high-mountain forest park at 2,200 meters elevation. It features cherry blossom trails, ancient cypress trees, and mountain railways. Each season brings its charm — cherry blossoms in spring, cool retreats in summer, maples in autumn, and sea of clouds in winter.

Alishan Forest Railway (Sacred Tree Line)

A short nostalgic train ride (~15 mins) through the dense cedar forest to the Sacred Tree Station. It provides easy access to the famous ancient cypress trees and offers a scenic and historic experience.

Xianglin Sacred Trees (Husband and Wife Trees)

Two massive red cypress stumps standing side by side, resembling a couple. Though no longer living, their enduring presence has made them a symbol of eternal love and one of Alishan’s most iconic photo spots.

Tataka Scenic Platform

Located on Highway 18 at an altitude of 2,610 meters, this is the highest viewpoint along the Alishan route. It offers panoramic views of the Yushan mountain range and surrounding peaks — a breathtaking photo stop.

Xiding Sea of Clouds

A lesser-known gem halfway up Alishan, famous for its dramatic sea of clouds, layered mountain views, and scenic tea plantations. Best visited around sunset or after rain when the clouds roll in like waves.

Er-Yan-Ping Trail

A short and accessible hiking trail (~1km) with viewing pavilions and resting points. The summit offers a 360-degree panorama of the Chianan Plain, sunrise, and cloud formations — perfect for casual hikers and families.
